Make an appointment – with yourself

We’ve all heard that old chestnut – ‘I haven’t got the time to exercise’, but it’s very likely that everyone who says that has the time to watch some TV, have a pint after work, or for something else that they enjoy.

If that describes you, then make an appointment with yourself – and stick to it. You don’t have to stop watching TV – but you could do some exercises at the same time (or watch after you’ve finished); and you can still go to the pub – just make sure that you jog there. You’ll probably find that you are reluctant to put your good efforts to waste with a calorific beer after a while though!

Once you’ve set up your appointment, you need to decide what exercise to do – the cardinal rule here is that it has to be something that you enjoy or you’ll soon give up, so try a few until you find the right one. Alternatively, make it a social event and work out with a friend – you don’t have to join a gym, have a game of tennis, or go dancing! And remember, you’re never too old to get fitter.
